Vaccination Schedule & Dosage

Here’s an article I got from my “MEMO” magazine. This is a publication that I receive with my membership with the National Pygmy Goat Association.

KIDS FROM VACCINATED DOES:

1 cc CD/T – 04 weeks

1 cc CD/T – 08 weeks

1 cc CD/T – 12 weeks

KIDS FROM UNVACCINATED DOES:

1 cc tetanus antitoxin – at birth

1 cc C & D antitoxin – at birth only indicated with when death losses have occured.

1 cc CD/T toxoid – 1 week

1 cc tetanus antitoxin – at disbudding (1 to 2 weeks)

1 cc CD/T toxoid – 4 weeks

1 cc CD/T – 8 weeks

ADULT DOES

2 cc CT/T – 4 weeks prepartum

ADULT BUCKS & WETHERS

2 cc CD/T – before breeding season (due to stress factors)

Note that this is the recommended program from the NPGA.  I myself vaccinate the adults once yearly.  The first time they get vaccinated they get a booster shot 4 weeks later and then 1 yearly.  On newborns, I follow the first schedule listed.

I also use a new needle for each vaccination.  Needles may look reusable but should they even have a slight bend in the point, that shot will not be painless.  Needles are cheap enough, please don’t skimp on those.  Not to mention the danger of transmitting diseases from one goat to another.

Here’s an excellent article on the subject.
